This platform is intended to be like an ever-moving time capsule, with an element of citizen curatorship. We’ll share tales of pioneering teams and individuals whose creativity helped advance medical science, but we’ll also share the stories of those equally brave people who volunteered to go first when it came to new treatments, or whose lives have been impacted by illness or injury. We’ll traverse times in our past where diseases wrought havoc with our people and see how those experiences have influenced not only public health today, but our cultural identity.
Our Health Journeys is a new kind of museum; one without bricks and mortar but a repository for our stories nevertheless. There may not be physical objects to admire, but there are stories aplenty of bravery, ingenuity, innovation and courage. These are Aotearoa’s stories – of extraordinary kiwis from the eminent to the everyday. No story is too small if it is your story.
